Burying trash is bad...Converting it is better! NACALF's primary objective is to stop burying our waste in landfills. Landfill waste turns into methane gas, which has 23 times more global warming potential than CO2. Even the most efficient gas recovery system at landfills is only 70% efficient. Which means 30% is escaping to add to global warming. Our secondary objective is to reduce Michigan’s fossil fuel use by turning a valuable, renewable energy source, our trash, into alternative fuels. (The EPA has ruled that MSW is renewable energy; and, that EPAG plants are likely to meet all air pollution requirements) |
