It’s been a while since I updated you on the project, so let me fill you in on the latest. Suncrest and I have been busy meeting with different interested parties and another interested power broker. We met with one last week. They want to work with us to make the project happen as bad as we do. A letter of intent (LOI) is being drafted to spell out the rules for negotiating a Purchase Power Agreement (PPA) and we hope to have a deal soon. Dave flew in to attend the meeting (Dave is the chief engineering person for Suncrest). While Dave was in town, we also met with a large retail organization. They saw Charles Slat’s article in the paper about the EWE project and contacted Suncrest to see if we are interested in supplying them with E85 Ethanol and Biodiesel fuel. During the meeting they mentioned that they produced several thousand tons of waste per year from their stores, that now goes to a landfill. We suggested we could turn that waste in to Ethanol and Biodiesel, and they could become a “zero waste” Company! We are continuing discussions on this subject. Finally, Last Thursday, I was invited to a fund-raiser for Kate Ebli in Monroe. Governor Granholm was there and I got to speak with her about the EWE project (See picture). She is aware of our plans here in Erie and announced to the group that “Erie’s second generation waste to Ethanol plant will be a positive thing for Michigan”. One of the Governor’s entourage told me that Skip Pruss’ office was also following the EWE project. (Skip is head of Michigan’s alternative energy program) There is still a lot to do yet…but we are steadily closing in on our goals. I’ll keep you all posted.
